Whether you’re brand new to all things vaping, or if you’re just looking for ways to up your game, we’re willing to bet that you’ve heard the word “squonking” thrown around outside of your local vape shop.
But what exactly is a vape squonk, and what kind of a squonk mod do you need to make it happen? How does it help you get more out of your favorite vape juice?
You’ve come to the right place.
Keep on reading to learn everything you need to know about the basics of squonking. We promise you, it’s nowhere near as hard as it seems.
What Is Squonking?
Let’s start by covering the terminology here first.
After all, you know that there are already tons of misconceptions in the vaping world. Let’s make sure that your definition of squonking isn’t one of them.
In a nutshell, a squonk vape mod is a new kind of mod that actually allows for on-demand e-juice pumping. That’s because these mods come fully loaded with a built-in bottle for your e-juice.
They work by feeding your e-juice up into the end of the atomizer, letting the juice flow through both your coils and wicks. Some people affectionally refer to squonk mods as “bottom-feeders” as a result.
If you’re currently into dripping, we think that getting into squonking is the next logical step. Plus, squonk vape devices usually allow you to store more e-juice.
The way we see it, anything that lets you extend your overall vaping time is a great idea.
How Is It Different from Dripping?
Of course, we understand that you might have questions about the real differences between a vape squonk and dripping in general.
When you drip, remember that cotton is actually just pulled through the heating device. The e-juice hangs out on the cotton until your wick is completely wet. You’ll keep dripping that e-juice onto your cotton once it dries out.
We get that, although dripping is seriously fun, it can get a bit tedious after a while.
For many, squonking is the solution they’ve been looking for.
Remember the key difference here. Squonk mods actually have that built-in e-juice storage device in them already. All you have to do is lightly squeeze your e-juice container, and the liquid gets sent right into your RDA.
It helps to think of a squonk mod as kind of a blend between an RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer) and your more traditional vape mod.
A few things to keep in mind, however?
If you want to get into squonking, you’re going to need a little bit more gear than what you might have now. You’ll need a new mod, of course. But, you’ll also need to make sure you’re working with an RDA that has a hole for your e-juice to actually get through.
Now, let’s take a look at how to actually use your squonk mod. Practice definitely makes perfect here. So, don’t get discouraged if you don’t exactly nail it on your first try.
How To Use a Squonk Mod
Remember that you’re still going to need to do a little bit of manual labor when you’re using a squonk mod. After all, as opposed to your standard sub-ohm tank, when you use a squonk mod, the wick isn’t soaked automatically.
In most cases, we suggest that you get a somewhat clear mod that lets you see how much e-juice you actually have left.
Remember that it’s also up to you to gently squeeze your container. That’s what moves your e-juice up through the RDA. We emphasize the word “gently” here especially.
Using too much force isn’t just messy. It can also be dangerous.
So, once you’ve used a slight amount of pressure, keep applying that pressure until you spot the liquid going up into your RDA. Then, you can go ahead and let go. Once the mod shifts back into its original shape, your wick is wet.
Now, you’re ready to turn on the device and start vaping.
Always Go With Legit Mods
A final — and likely the most important — piece of advice we’ll offer here?
Always make sure that you’re investing only in quality squonk mods from trusted, reputable brands.
We mentioned before that applying too much pressure can be seriously risky. In addition to this, because squonking is so new, some of the mods aren’t as regulated as they should be.
This means that, especially if you’re dealing with shady vendors, you could end up with a used battery in your mod. We don’t think we even have to mention what could go wrong in that scenario.
When in doubt, look online and go with the brands you trust. Also, read plenty of reviews before you buy. This will save you from making a potentially disastrous purchase.
